The name Yajneshwar says Lord of the Sacrifice, and it remembers the old altar fires of the city. Later buildings of the district slowly buried most of the original steps. A single small landing still meets the water at the foot of the temple lanes. The streets behind the ghat keep the old quarter entirely alive.
