The ghat was raised under the patronage of the King of Nepal, and the royal style shows in its stairs. Above it stands the famous wooden temple, carved in the manner of Kathmandu, with eaves and brackets found nowhere else in the city. Some call it the Ganga Kausav or the Pashupatinath of the East. It is one of the most photographed corners of Varanasi.
