2-Day Varanasi Itinerary
The complete Kashi experience — from spiritual ghats to royal forts, ancient wisdom to vibrant markets.
About This Itinerary
This 2-day itinerary gives you a deeper, more relaxed experience of Varanasi. Day 1 focuses on the spiritual core — the sunrise boat ride, Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, and the iconic Ganga Aarti. Day 2 dives into the cultural and historical side — BHU Campus, the majestic Ramnagar Fort, bustling markets, and a peaceful evening at Assi Ghat.
With two days, you will not feel rushed. Take your time at each ghat, linger over street food, and soak in the atmosphere that makes Varanasi unlike any other city on earth.
Day 1 — Spiritual Varanasi
The sacred heart of Kashi — boat rides, temples, and the legendary Ganga Aarti.
Early wake-up. Head to Assi Ghat or Dashashwamedh for the sunrise boat ride. Shared boats ₹50-100/person, private ₹300-500.
On the boat. Watch the ghats come alive at sunrise. See morning rituals — bathing, prayers, and the city waking up along the river.
Return to the ghat. Breakfast at a nearby stall — kachori, jalebi, chai. Try the famous Blue Lassi or Thandai shop.
Walk to Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. Enter through the grand gateway. The 500m corridor connects the temple to the Ganges.
Darshan at Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Queue moves efficiently. VIP darshan ₹300. Carry only your phone — no bags allowed.
Explore corridor architecture, inscriptions, and the Ganga Mahal Ghat. Walk through the old lanes for street food.
Auto/taxi to Sarnath (25-30 min). Visit Dhamek Stupa, Ashoka Pillar, and the museum. Hire a guide (₹200-400).
Lunch near Sarnath. Local thali or North Indian food. Rest 20-30 minutes.
Return to Varanasi. Visit BHU Vishwanath Temple — a grand replica of the original.
Rest at hotel. Recharge for the evening.
Walk along the ghats. Visit Manikarnika Ghat from a distance — the main cremation ghat. Observe from the steps, do not disturb the rituals.
Continue towards Dashashwamedh. Pass Manmandir, Someshwar, and other ghats.
Find a spot at Dashashwamedh for the Ganga Aarti. Arrive early for a good view.
Witness the spectacular Ganga Aarti — fire, chanting, and devotion. 45 minutes of pure magic.
Dinner at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Ganges. Varanasi thali or street food.
Night walk along the ghats. Illuminated temples and temple bells. Return to hotel.
Day 2 — Culture & Heritage
Royal forts, university campus, vibrant markets, and a relaxed evening by the Ganges.
Relaxed morning. Breakfast at the hotel or a nearby cafe. No rush today.
Visit BHU Campus — one of Asia's largest residential universities. Walk through the lush green campus, see the Faculty of Arts, and the iconic BHU gate.
Bharat Kala Bhavan museum inside BHU. Excellent collection of miniature paintings, sculptures, and Indian art.
Auto to Ramnagar Fort (15-20 min). The 17th-century Mughal-era fort on the opposite bank of the Ganges.
Explore Ramnagar Fort — the museum with vintage cars, royal palanquins, swords, and the famous Ram Leela collection. Entry ₹50.
Lunch at a local restaurant near the fort or return to the city.
Shopping time! Head to Vishwanath Gali, Thatheri Bazaar, or Chowk for silk sarees, bangles, brassware, and Varanasi specialties.
Snack break — try the famous Banarasi paan, malaiyo (seasonal), or lassi from a local shop.
Head to Assi Ghat. Find a quiet spot by the river. Watch the sunset paint the Ganges gold.
Optional: attend the evening Ganga Aarti at Assi Ghat — smaller and more intimate than Dashashwamedh.
Farewell dinner at a riverside restaurant. Reflect on two incredible days in Varanasi.
Final stroll through the ghat lanes. Buy souvenirs. Return to hotel.
